Why CCTV and Access Control Work Better Together

CCTV and access control are often bought separately, from different suppliers, at different times. They work — but they work much harder when they are planned as one system.

Link video to door events

When a door is forced, held open or used outside normal hours, an integrated system can bookmark the matching camera footage automatically. Instead of scrolling through hours of video, you jump straight to the moment that matters.

Faster, clearer investigations

Access logs tell you whose credential was used; video shows who actually used it. Reviewing both together gives you evidence you can act on — whether the issue is a security incident or a simple procedural problem.

What to plan for from the start

  • Camera coverage at every controlled entrance and exit.
  • Enough network capacity and Power-over-Ethernet for cameras and door controllers.
  • Storage sized for the retention period you need.
  • Clear permissions: who can see live video, recordings and access logs.
  • Emergency-release and fail-safe behaviour for doors, agreed with your building safety design.

Visitors and contractors

Visitor registration, temporary credentials and escorted-access rules are easier to enforce when the same platform manages them and records them.

If you are fitting out a new space or upgrading an existing one, it is worth designing both systems together. Talk to our ELV team and we will survey the site and recommend a layout.
